New Visa Requirement for nationals of Botswana and South Africa

Navan, Ireland – 09/07/24 – Cultúr Migrants Centre notes the Department of Justice’s recent
announcement that holders of South African and Botswanan passports will be subject to Irish visa
requirements effective from 10th July 2024. This means that nationals from these countries will now
need to obtain an Irish visa prior to traveling to Ireland.

The Department of Justice has detailed limited transitional arrangements for certain travellers
affected by this change. Specifically, South African and Botswana passport holders who have booked
their travel to Ireland before 10th July 2024 and who will travel before 10th August 2024 may enter
Ireland without a visa, provided they possess the following documentation:
As an organization dedicated to the rights and welfare of migrants, we recognize the potential
challenges and disruptions this new visa requirement may cause. We urge the Irish government to
ensure that the visa application process is accessible, transparent, and efficient to prevent any
hardships for South African and Botswana nationals who wish to visit Ireland.
Additionally, we encourage affected individuals to carefully review the new requirements and
ensure they have all necessary documentation to avoid any travel disruptions. Our organization is
committed to providing support and information to those navigating these new regulations.
