Navan, County Meath
The Communities Connect Project hosted a Mentors and Mentees Networking Event at the Ardboyne Hotel in Navan on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024. It was attended by more than 50 participants, including Mentors, Mentees, staff, and key stakeholders from Meath County Council and other partners interested in the project.
This marks the first time that Mentors and Mentees convened as a group since the project launched in 2023. Over the past two years, the project has engaged more than 150 prospective participants, enrolling 42 Mentees. Volunteer Mentors meet with their Mentees on a one-on-one basis once a month over a period of 9 months.
The event highlighted the power of mentorship in creating a supportive network where individuals can learn from each other, gain new perspectives, and overcome challenges together. It was truly inspiring to see the impact that mentorship had on both mentors and mentees, reinforcing the idea that we are all capable of making a difference in each other’s lives.
The Communities Connect Project, which began in 2023, is now in its second phase. With the support of various stakeholders, the project continues to strengthen connections between communities and provide vital assistance to International Protection Applicants in the region. Its primary goal is to create stronger, more inclusive communities by fostering meaningful relationships between International Protection Applicants and the local community.
The Communities Connect project aims to foster integration and provide support for International Protection Applicants by pairing them with local mentors and organizing networking workshops. These efforts focus on building more inclusive communities and creating allies for 18 to 30-year-old males living in direct provision.
