Cultúr Migrant integration and Anti-Racism Project

“I was delighted to be invited by Gareth McArdle to deliver a session on Cultural Competence and Unconscious bias to probationer Gardaí from the CDP Meath Division. My key message was creating conditions for social cohesion through intercultural dialogue. #culturematters #strongercommunities #diversityequityinclusion”

“I attended a really interesting session today on ‘Unconscious Bias and Cultural Competence’ with Reuben Hambakachere of Cultur Migrant Centre.
Thank you Reuben! A lovely session delivered with humour and great storytelling.

The topic is complicated as it is nuanced and as you said, we need to keep listening, learning, challenging (ourselves and others) to strive towards cultural intelligence and competence.

Some simple steps can mitigate against unconscious bias, including job applications without names, addresses and dates of birth. And the old adage holds true – ‘Never judge a book by its cover”.

#culturalcompetence
